Classroom Management

Welcome to Spanish class!

I am excited to share with you my love for language, culture and learning. Below are the commitments I make to my students, what I expect from them and our classroom procedures. Following this plan will sustain an orderly learning environment and support students' success.

¡Bienvenidos al mundo de Español!

My commitments to you:

· I love my students and promise to get to know each of you individually. I am ready to learn your goals, what you love and find out what you hope to get out of our class together.

· I will prepare valuable, engaging and well prepared lesson plans each day to include lecture, fun activities, role playing and mix in Latin language, culture and music. ¿Bailamos?

· I will be welcoming, flexible and attentive to listen. I can make modifications or adjustments as needed. I am available to listen if you need to talk. I know that you may face many unique challenges and I am flexible to work with you as you progress through our class.

· I will utilize technology to bring you closer to the topics we are learning and augment the lesson plan to create immersive and imaginative experiences.

· I will greet you in Spanish at the door every day. When you walk through the door, we leave everything else behind and you will be transported into a safe, welcoming classroom.

My expectations for you:

· I expect you to be respectful to me and your fellow classmates in all moments.

· Give me your best efforts and honest feedback.

· I expect you to be on time for class and all distractions put away before you enter class.

· You must participate and be engaged in the classroom activities.

· If you want to chat with your friends and get away with it, do it in Spanish.

· Mistakes happen frequently in learning a new language, get used to imperfection and embrace the process of learning a new language which requires patience.

· You will greet me back in Spanish each day with an appropriate response to my greeting to you.

Classroom procedures:

· Each day you will have an assignment waiting for you as you enter class. Please begin work immediately as we begin each class.

· I use the SLANT and LISTEN techniques and expect you to follow them closely.

SLANT = S- Sit Up, L-Listen, A- Ask and Answer Questions, N- Nod your head, T-Track the Speaker.
LISTEN
= Loot at me, Involve yourself, Show me, Tune back in, Español only, No talking over

· Spanish will be our main form of communication in class. I expect a 70% Spanish, 30% English distribution. We will speak in Spanish whenever possible.

· We will follow and I will reinforce the procedures and behavioral expectations as outlined in the Student Handbook.

· View our classroom as a family. We will build positive relationships and trust with each other.

· I may assign seats to students but will be open to flexibility depending on behavior and participation.

· Good behavior will not only be acknowledged but will also be REWARDED!

In my class you will learn skills that can be used for a lifetime. I will encourage students to put knowledge into action and look for opportunities to use what they’ve learned into real life situations. – Priscilla Kevitz
